Why did we ever pull into this one-horse town?
We’ve had nothing but bad luck ever since our car broke down.
Then our it was broken into and we were robbed,
They left a bunch of cigarette butts and took every last thread of cloth.

We stopped in and we told the cops,
They just sat back and started to laugh.
So we stole their bicycles and then
Got thrown off them by the Inland staff.

With bruises on our foreheads,
They started talking about a special tax treaty,
They said we owed them three thousand,
They threatened that our wages would be docked electronically.

So, I ask,
Why did we ever pull into this one-horse town?

Life is getting more expensive
we told the town mayor.
He told us that we better work on the Cobol
To program the county fair.

We said Fortran and Cobol are long lost
They’re already bound up in dusty novels on your bookshelf,
A customs guard didn’t like what we were saying,
Told us you can’t get away with such language when you’re down south.

An insurance salesman visited us and
And said that term would be the best due to our predicament,
He threw in a George Foreman grill,
Even said that he had boxed himself for a very short stint.

So I ask,
Why did we ever pull into this one-horse town?
